Caged Bird

We reside in a world that man can thrive, and women can watch through a window washing dishes. Women are 2nd class citizens to men, and that makes us self-sacrificing. (what an admirable quality) . 

A girl growing up in the south is forced or rather highly encouraged to be three professions: A nurse (if you’re clever), Secretary (if your good at listening), or a teacher (that makes you humble). 

You wear dresses every Sunday with clean dress shoes, hair put up, and mouth zipped. You’re respectful to any man, no matter his occupation and you say “yes sir.” You don’t argue a man won’t matter if his perspective is racist, bigoted or based upon another man’s opinion. 

You don’t express emotion unless its a smile and you should be humble at all times. Your job is to please a man and not to stand up to misogyny. 

You will constantly get asked about intimate relationships and to when are you getting married? What type of wedding would you like (as long as your dad can afford it)? You will be conned into thinking that this is the best moment in your entire life because your self-accomplishments mean nothing unless you’re married. You don’t want to be alone your entire life. What a miserable life? To have no one to answer too, what would happen to you? You wouldn’t make it in this world. 

You should start thinking about how many children you are going to have because that’s a woman’s main focus. Everyone desires children. Children are what we wore put on this world to do. 

You should start thinking about where your mans (because you should never be without one) living and follow on command. And for heaven’s sake never think for yourself. Oh. You don’t move away from your hometown unless your man is moving because of a job or simply because he chooses. 

Yes, of course, go to college but you pick one of the honorable and most sacred careers; because your husband will make most of the money anyway so it doesn’t matter. You know you have it made when you can stay at home and watch your lovely children and enjoy that precious moment. 

You need to stay skinny. A man doesn’t like a girl with curves or too much “meat” on her bones. You are not a boy, so you don’t need muscles. Let’s be honest sweetie, boys love a girl that can cook but not a girl that looks like she eats her food. Girls like that stay single. Plump girls don’t receive love. If your fat in this world its because you can’t keep your mouth shut. Oh, your different human beings with different dietary needs and hormones levels? NO!! All women are the same. So big boobs, small butts and even smaller waste. 

Sports are mostly for men, but you can play some as long as you don’t invest too much time into them. Plus, boys don’t respond well to being competitive so make sure you always allow your husband to win. Women don’t play games. You are too small compared to a boy. You are too weak compared to a man, and so you would get hurt. You can wear short skirts and cheer from the outside, and he will be motivated by your spirit and peppiness. (more like your ass)

See the world? Why do women need to see the world for they only need to see the house they will reside in after marriage of course and what schools their children will attend? Sweetie you can look out the window and see the sky is the same shade of blue everywhere you go. What more do you want? You can go to the same Food Lion grocery store, your silly job, husband’s job to bring him lunch (only), children school (naturally you should be on the PTA or running it.), and the kitchen(look out the window.). What more can you ask for? You should be appreciative to live in a world that allows you to enjoy so much freedom. 

Women are emotional creatures and could never understand foreign policy, democratic debates, or even more complex sciences. Women need to ease into subjects and need a lot of background information, and they need simplistic concepts broke down to a 3rd-grade reading level. 

Therefore keep the concepts and word choices to four-letter words solely. Women don’t need to be bothered with current events or injustices by politicians because they wouldn’t be able to understand. 

Don’t argue with a woman and just give in to whatever she is saying and make sure you say the wife is always correct. Women are useless to be argued with and allowing an academic debate is above her intelligence, so don’t waste your breath. 

And if you’re not wed by 22 with a June wedding then theirs room in God’s temple for nuns.

You are locked within your cage, and you can’t leave. You sing when you suppose to. You never dare question the cage for you know there is no point. You’re locked inside this cage without room to breath. 

You grasp the bars of this cage, and you know that it’s too late for you. You smile on command and without a doubt, you follow their rules. We are all thrown into the same cage and we are told that is our life. What they don’t know is that you found the key to the cage and gave it to me. As I’ve opened this cage that has held us in, you don’t fly away. You stay in your spot, but you forced me out of it. Why? You saw this cage for what it was, and you knew that this captivity was gradually killing you. And yet you plunge me out of the cage and latch the door behind me. I’ve felt the wind beneath my wings and I never want to back in that cage ever again. And you observe me soar above the cage. Not many women get the opportunity to escape this cage, but you made sure I would not be forced into a cage to where I didn’t belong.
